From the Earth

Welcome to my first collection’s preview! I’m honoured that you’re here. Each of these original paintings will be available on Tuesday, October 19th at 11:00 AM Mountain Standard Time. At that time, even more information about the pieces, shipping, etc. will be provided.

While creating this collection, I was inspired by the rich colour palettes of classical Dutch still-life paintings and artists such as the pre-Raphaelites, Artemisia Gentileschi, and Caravaggio. These artists often depicted the same things that we often see around us — people, fruit, vegetables, and plants — but do so in a way that makes these items seem elevated and special. We are so separated from the subjects and artists of these paintings by time and space that it’s easy to feel alienated but many of the things that they painted are around us too, and they are precious.

Because of this, I decided to paint things that are common but worth cherishing (in my opinion at least, some of you may have a few things to say about the thistles). This includes things that come from the earth to sustain us or simply to add colour and life to the landscape — things that can feed us in many ways and that fed the ancestors who came before us. Each piece has it’s own story and purpose, and means so much to me. I hope you find something here that is beautiful to you too.
